Race recap: 2013 Get Lucky 7K

First of all, a HUGE thank you to Tony Telschow for being our personal race photographer and taking these awesome photos!

After going to bed wayyyy too late the night before (but come on, there was an old SNL episode on with JT as the host!), the alarm went off around 6:30 a.m. I got up and made the Carrots ‘n Cake French Toast Breakfast Scramble. I decided on the following race outfit:

  • Brooks Infinity II tights with a pair of basic Lucy black yoga pants over them
  • Lululemon Run Swiftly LS, Grandma’s half marathon finisher T, Monster Dash zip up jacket
  • Brooks gloves, headband AND Lulu run brisk hat, sunglasses
  • Saucony Guide 5’s

I used to work in the building right next to the start line, so luckily I was pretty familiar with where I was going and the parking options available. I decided to park at a meter about ten blocks away — I figured I’d save some money and get a nice warm-up in!

Once I got to the starting line area, I met up with Mandy and her husband Tony and we waited (shivering) for the race to begin. It’s been awhile since I’ve run such a huge race — I heard that it took some people over 40 minutes to cross the start line!

Once we got going, the first mile or so we were just concentrating on not slipping and falling. In fact, one guy did totally wipe out in front of us.

It was also a super sunny day which was especially bright, reflecting off of the snow. Was happy I had my alien-looking sunglasses.

Finished!

Finished!

I feel like the race itself was pretty uneventful. There was your typical weaving around people for the first couple of miles since it’s just a big race. Mandy and I both agreed that after the rough start we were happy we had decided to run the 7K and not the half marathon distance.

Final time: 44:12

After the race, we got our medals and pre-packaged bags on post-race food (weird). After our long walk back to our cars, I was frozen and ready for a hot shower!

The rest of the day was busy, but absolutely wonderful. I had a delicious brunch at moto-i with my friend Allie! Allie was one of my three other roommates my freshman year of college and it had been way too long since we had last caught up!

I will definitely be going back to moto-i for their fantastic Japanese-inspired brunch. The not-so-great part about lunch was that I came back to a $42 parking ticket on my car. Upon closer inspection:

WTF.

WTF.

I got this ticket at 12:25 p.m. but I had paid the meter until 1:28 p.m.? Someone’s getting a phone call tomorrow.

Then after a quick nap I met Erin at Parka for a soy salted caramel latte and some good conversation.

Every time I get together with Erin I’m reminded of how amazing she is and how we need to hang out more often!

Here are some of the other great shots that Tony got:

  1. Congrats on a great 7K, lady! I am still shocked that that many people ran it! And, agreed… pre-packaged bags of post-race food are weird.

We DEFINITELY need to hang out more often! Excited to get a standing coffee date on the calendar! I haven’t had a lot of time to research blog stuff this week, but plan to this weekend and will keep you posted!

    1. Thank you, Erin! I have to admit, I haven’t done much research either. But we’ll do some and then get back together to discuss. Fun!
