Goldy’s Run race recap + Ladies Night Out

Race #6 of the year — done!

Yesterday, I ran the Goldy’s Run ten mile race — my first double digit run since last October! As compared to last year’s nearly perfect running weather (I’m pretty sure it was sunny and in the 50s) this year sucked. It was snowy/drizzling before the race started and 30 degrees. After our pre-race photo, our group headed to the start line. My husband and his friend John lined up near the 7:00/mi pace group and my friends Andrea, Stef and I took our places closer to the 10:00/mi pacers.

One thing that I was prepared for, but was still incredibly challenging, was the hilly course.

Check out the elevation gain:

Andrea and I ran together and I ended up pacing her right up until the very end. She did AMAZING! Especially since the furthest distance she had run prior to the race was 8.56 miles. I was very proud of her.

The end of this race almost makes up for the hills. You come running into the stadium area and through a tunnel (I looked down at my Garmin and at one point was running over 10 mph.) and then right onto the football field in the stadium — and finish right on the 50-yard-line. So cool. This photo, from the Goldy’s Run website, is better than any that I took:

After the race, J and I scarfed down a Chipotle burritos and then I promptly took a nap. I didn’t sleep too long, because before I knew it, it was time to get ready to go out for Ladies Night Out!

Do we look like ladies ready for a night out?

The event was held at the Running Room in Uptown. It was a full house and a lot of fun. And I got to see Lee again after meeting her for the first time in Chicago.

As soon as we got there, we got in line and were treated to some complimentary refreshments. I went with a soy chai and some salted caramel gelato. YUM!

The Women’s Running Series bling.

But the highlight of the evening was getting to see KJ while she was in town for her #onenightinMinnesota.

There were some great speakers — I especially enjoyed the sports bra fitting talk by a Moving Comfort rep. I actually ended up buying one since it’s been on my to-do list for forever. Plus, 15 percent off ALL merchandise in the store? Can’t go wrong there.

Then we all got sent home with some pretty sweet swag:

(I already wore my new headband during my workout today)

After Ladies Night Out, I swung by my house and picked up my husband to head to my boss’s place for the Clue-themed birthday party she was throwing with her husband!

How cute are these? Just one of the many delicious-looking snacks.

I was a bad blogger and didn’t get a picture of it, but she even had a fro-yo bar! Complete with Pinkberry fro-yo and an assortment of toppings.

I never played Clue growing up, so I didn’t totally understand the game we were playing while at the party, but I do know one thing — we didn’t win. (Still fun anyways!)

After a minor panic-inducing incident on our way home from the party, involving downtown St. Paul, an ambulance, traffic control cops and the Wild hockey game letting out, we got home and I went to bed immediately. I think it should be a rule that I don’t do more than one thing during the day after running ten miles.

The weather is absolutely disgusting today so all I’ve really accomplished is getting in a two mile recovery run this morning, a lovely lunch at Panera with a friend and some blogging at a coffee shop. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Have you ever played Clue? What have I been missing all of these years?
