Another marathon?

Up until this point, if anyone asked me if I was going to run a marathon this year, I would say no. I had no plans whatsoever to run another until maybe next year. However, my husband is training for Grandma’s right now and just signed up for Twin Cities — andΒ now I’m really really tempted to sign up for TCM also.

I hadn’t really said this out loud to anyone — have just been mulling it over in my head. But then I tweeted this to Beth about TCM — officially putting it out on social media. And it felt good!

So here’s my list of pros and cons re: running Twin Cities this year:

Pros
  • Maybe I can justify eating the way I’ve been lately
  • I now have a better idea of what I’m getting myself into and can prepare accordingly
  • Will hold me accountable to getting my runs in, which I’m finding has been really crucial in managing my anxiety
Cons
  • Do I really want to spend my summer training for a marathon again?
  • I’d likely be training alone this time around — unless I can talk any of you into training with me! (even long distance — I felt like I was training with Amy last summer!)
  • Marathon training got expensive for me — mainly because I found that regular massages were necessary in keeping me injury-free and of course, I went through shoes like crazy.
I reached out to the person with Girls on the Run who coordinates the Solemates program to find out more about maybe running TCM as a Solemate. So that might factor into my decision too πŸ™‚
In other racing news…
I’m racing (again) this weekend. Just a 5K. Will be glad for a break after this one.
Also, since the Women’s Running Bloomington half marathon was canceled, I’ve decided to run the Gopher to Badger half. The good thing about this race is that it’s not two weeks after the Minneapolis half. The bad thing is that it’s less than a week before Ragnar.
But the best thing about it is that I’ll be running with with Amanda! I’m glad I was peer pressured into this one for once. Usually I’m the one doing the peer pressuring πŸ™‚
This makes me happy.

This makes me happy.

Finally, wanted to share some of my current favorite recipes. My new favorite easy (like, super easy) dinner are these goat cheese, carmelized onion and spinach quesadillas.Β I’ve also been making a lot of Erin’s coconut rice to fuel my husband’s marathon training. Paired with a Trader Joe’s Masala burger — pretty easy and awesome.
Oh, and with the weather getting warmer, these no-bake GF cookies are amazing!

  1. Gopher to badger half is a fave of mind ran it the last three years and last year did Ragnar the following weekend no worries it was fun! Running as a sole mate was a pretty cool deal last year as well running for a cause is a different firm if motivation πŸ™‚ good luck!!!

    • OH!! I’m so glad to hear that πŸ™‚ I feel MUCH better. Thanks, Amine!

Also good to know re: Sole mates. I totally forgot you ran TCM as a Sole Mate. If I think I’ll be able to raise the money, I think I’ll do it!

  2. I say go for it! The second one is so much easier!

  3. Depending on how Grandma’s marathon goes, I might sign up for Twin Cities….I haven’t done a massage during training yet, although I’m thinking I’ll need to find something semi-affordable to try out.

I’m bummed the women’s half is cancelled, I’m not sure why they didn’t do it in August this year (like they did last year). But I didn’t sign up because it’s too close to Grandma’s.

I am going to sign up for the Minneapolis half on June 2, is that the half you are referring to?

    • I know last year they ran into some issues with competing against the Women Rock and Women Run the Cities races and it was on the same day as the Minneapolis Duathlon. Hopefully next year!

Yeah — that’s the half I’m doing! I ran it a few years ago also, but I guess they’ve changed the route since then so it doesn’t end on the awful hill it used to πŸ™‚

      • I hadn’t heard of Minneapolis half until I started scouring the internet for a half place decently before Grandmas. I did Get Lucky 7k this year and hope Team Ortho has the start times figured out a little better, but maybe I’ll see you there!

  4. You can train virtually with Team Race With Us! πŸ˜‰ I’ll be training for SOMETHING this summer (full or half… we shall see). PLUS I just saw that Carrie Tollefson is planning on running TCM!! She’s one of my favorites. https://www.tcmevents.org/_asset/64pcqd/Carrie-Tollefson-to-Run-Marathon.pdf

    • Yeahhhhh! I’d love to virtually train with TRWU! Looking forward to hearing what you decide on post-Wisconsin marathon πŸ™‚

  5. Um, virtual training buddy right here!!! πŸ˜€

  6. Love your “justify the way you have been eating” pro! I’ve heard great things about the Twin City race. I am taking this year off from marathon training for the simple reason that I want to get in killer boot camp shape. But I really wish I was, so I’m on the fence like you.

    • I totally know what you mean. A part of me would love to take the year off to focus on other aspects of my fitness, but then there is the part that feels like something would be missing if I don’t sign up for TCM!

  7. I say go for it, too! I would love to do some runs with you! πŸ™‚

Those quesadillas look delicious! Thanks for linking to my coconut rice… so glad you like it! πŸ™‚

    • Yay! It will be good for me to run FAST with you πŸ™‚ Also, thanks for the recipe. I seriously make it all the time!
