FAB Fitness: weekly workouts 12/30/13 – 1/5/14

Monday – Thursday: SICK — nothing

I started feeling what I thought were allergies come on while at my parents’ house over the weekend, but when the symptoms didn’t go away and only got worse, I knew I was coming down with something. The worst was on Monday when the fever and chills started. Luckily, they only lasted a short while and then it felt like your typical run of the mill cold.

Since I was sick, NYE was pretty low key. We had some friends over and I  had a little bit of champagne at midnight, but then found my way into bed shortly before 2 a.m. and hung out in my PJs for awhile before that. #partyanimal

Other highlights of the first half of the week included registering and getting Minnesota license plates for my new car! Bun takeout from Quang with Mandy…

..and registering for my first race of 2014 — the Bock Run! I’m still unsure if I’ll be “racing” it — it all depends on what Coach thinks and how well it fits into my schedule. But it’s tradition, so I’ll be running it in some form.

Friday: 30 minutes indoor trainer

I was finally starting to feel better and decided that a quick sweat session on the indoor trainer would be just the right amount of exercise to get the blood flowing. So I put on an episode of SATC and pedaled my little heart out.

Saturday: 45 minute easy run (9:33 pace)

Busy Saturday = not getting my run in until 7 p.m. and then I also missed my window of opportunity for what would probably be the last outdoor run for some time. So I headed to the gym and caught the end of the Kansas City/Indianapolis game which was exciting right up until the last minute and kept me occupied. This wasn’t an easy run — it was painfully obvious that I hadn’t run for the past week but it got easier as the run went on and I didn’t push my pace too much. And it felt great to run again. It was so nice to have Coach telling me that it was OK to take it easy until I felt better but then gave me exactly what I needed to do to get back on track.

Earlier in the day, I co-hosted a baby shower for the lovely Jen:

And the hubs and I stopped by my work’s new office space!  I also got the Christmas tree down and a few loads of laundry taken care of. The run was actually a welcome break!

Sunday: 30 minute easy run (9:26 pace)

Since the cold has officially started setting in (it was negative nine degrees when I woke up) I knew it meant another indoor run. I met Andrea at her apartment building for 30 minutes on the treadmill and then we got coffee and breakfast after! It was a lovely way to start the day.

After I showered and got ready, Mandy and I went to see American Hustle. While it was entertaining, I think I was slightly disappointed. I didn’t think the “schemes” were all that great and I felt like it was a little drawn out. But other than that, it was good and I finally liked Amy Adams in a role.

If that wasn’t enough stuff to pack into a weekend, after the movie, the hubs and I met our friends to catch up and watch the Packer game.

It sure looked cold at Lambeau Field, but it wasn’t as cold as it was in Minnesota. And it’s -22/-50 (with the wind chill) here today and schools are closed. Happy Monday!

How cold is it where you live?

How were your workouts?

See any good movies lately?

Saturday I friend and I went for a walk, yesterday I taught a “slow sculpt” class, it has more lifting, and i am super sore today! I cancelled my am class this morning but may go to a class tonight before driving home.

Compared to where you are (and 8 hours north of you, where my family is), it’s a balmy autumn’s day. I wish we had the snow you guys have, but definitely none of the cold and horrible windchill.

Last week, I was away and ran 3 times: twice around Berlin, and once at home. I also did some yoga.

Haven’t seen any films in theatres lately, but I watched Pitch Perfect for the first time last month and absolutely loved it! Lesbi honest, it’s a fantastic film 😉

Yes — I love the snow (besides driving in and shoveling it!) but this cold is just bad news. Sounds like you got some good workouts in — especially since you were away from home. And I’ve only seen parts of Pitch Perfect but those parts sucked me in 🙂

It is freezing!!!! Even my tiny walk into work was horrible today- I work near the airport so I think it is extra windy in my company parking lot. I went to see the Wolf of Wall Street on Christmas. It was….interesting. I wouldn’t see it again, but I guess I didn’t hate it. It made me glad I have never done cocaine (so that is good I suppose).

I’ve heard that about Wolf of Wall Street. Still undecided if I’ll see it in the theater. I think I’ll likely see it at some point though!

I saw Saving Mr. Banks a few weeks ago… so good! Definitely recommend. Hope you’re feeling better this week! My workouts lately: the trainer + pool. Is it spring yet?! 🙂

I want to see that so badly! Thanks — i’m starting to feel much better, minus a stuffy nose 🙂 I have been itching to get back into the pool — although this weather makes wet hair a no-no 🙂

smart of you to take that time off while sick. i have such a hard time (mentally) doing that. and then it looks like you eased back into things nicely. your pregnant friend is adorable! and the takeout looks amazing.

I was thinking about you the other day (yesterday?) when they were talking about the temps in Minnesota. I can’t even imagine. Are things starting to finally warm up a bit?

I actually put the question to facebook on whether I should see American Hustle or Wolf of Wall Street…and overwhelmingly my friends told me to go see Saving Mr. Banks! I was not disappointed!

Hope you are feeling better and warmer!

YES! We’re supposed to be in the 30s today. A-men.

I really want to see Saving Mr. Banks — I think that’ll be next on my list. I also kind of want to see the Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
