Juice cleanse, so far…

Ready to drink some juice!

Ready to drink some juice!

Day one went pretty well. I slept in and woke up to find a cooler full of fresh juices delivered right to my doorstep! As advised on the Juice Works website, I  started the day with some water. Around 10:15 a.m. I cracked open my first juice, a green juice — kale, romaine, spinach, celery, ginger and lemon juice.

Now I’ve sampled all of the juices before, (and they are all SO yummy) but it still comes as kind of a shock when you take your first sip. It’s hard to describe. As Carly put it, “it’s like drinking a salad.” But if that doesn’t sound appealing to you, just think a really, really delicious salad.

After juice #1, I headed to the gym. I tried out my new Sauconys by running a nice, easy mile on the treadmill. Just as I had suspected, they were too big. (Sent them back to Running Warehouse today.) I also found out that I’m not ready to start running again yet. Even a brisk walk made my lungs very unhappy. Bummer – I think I might sign up for another race to make myself feel better.

Post-gym, we made a trip to the co-op to stock up on spinach, kale, veggies and tea and picked up some tilapia for dinner. When I got home, I enjoyed my beet juice — carrots, romaine, spinach, ginger, beets and lemon juice. I’m obsessed with this juice.

I started sipping on my third and final juice of the day around 4:30 p.m. (another green juice) and started dinner for J and I. (This juice cleanse is sort of like a beginner’s cleanse, called “Juice ’til dinner.”) Tilapia and a salad for me and tilapia tacos for Jesse. I sipped on some tea during the Biggest Loser and then got ready for bed. I noticed that I had a headache right before bed, which could have been from the detoxing – or maybe not. Who knows.

This cleanse makes it easy to pack your lunch.

Today has been going great so far – I feel a lot less hungry than I felt throughout the day yesterday. I’m probably also better hydrated today which helps. Dinner will be very similar to last night’s, but maybe I’ll also enjoy one of the mini egg “quiches” I made up yesterday.

Happy Monday, everyone.

  1. Those juices sound delicious! I’m a big fan of juicing but have never done a “cleanse”. I think the biggest problem for me is I’d be starving all day! I usually do juice as a supplement to my normal diet.

Glad you’re feeling better, but as you figured out on your run, you are probably still in need of rest! Take care!

    1. It’s amazing how quickly my body adapted! I’m glad it’s only five days though 🙂 I do think ill be supplementing with juices in the future though!

  2. We were thinking of doing a 3 day juice cleanse next week. I think 3 days is my threshold before I kill someone. Glad you haven’t hit that point!

    1. Oooo fun — looking forward to hearing how it goes 🙂 Do you have a juicer then?

I’m glad I haven’t either. It’s actually getting easier, but I think I’ll be glad when five days are up!

  3. Glad to hear the cleanse is going well! I’ll maybe join you next time so long as it’s not during IM training 🙂 Also, the beet juice sounds incredible! Anything with ginger, and I’m sold!

  4. I’ve never done a cleanse… but I’ve been fighting some digestive annoyances and thought about it. I tend to feel REAL hungry if I don’t eat. Did you feel like you were starving or just a tad hungry?

    1. I wasn’t even a tad hungry during the day (after the first day). Then, around 5 p.m.-ish I started to feel hungry, but definitely not starving. I found it necessary to stay very hydrated throughout the day though!
